Coach Whidby played 2 seasons at Motlow State Community College where he helped lead the Bucks to Division Championships in 1996-97. He went on to play for The University of North Alabama where he earned All-Conference Honors in both years for the Lions. He was named Pitcher of the Year for the 1999 Team that won the Gulf South Conference, Region and Competed in the NCAA Division II World Series. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Public relations.

Coach Whidby served as an assistant coach for Ravenwood and Brentwood High School before joining the staff at Franklin High School. He served as an assistant coach for Franklin for 4 seasons before taking over as Head Coach in 2021. The Admirals posted a 20-win season in his second season as Head Coach. Coach Whidby’s wife Karen, a Franklin High School Hall of Fame inductee, is the Admirals Softball Coach. Together they have three children; Samuel, Everett and Daisy.
