Jordan Bruce dropped in seven 3-pointers, while Matt Thurman and Ahsharri Haynesworth dominated the middle on both ends of the court as Franklin bulldozed McGavock in the fourth quarter to take a 91-65 win a Region-AAA quarterfinal matchup at Brentwood Saturday. Bruce ignited the offensive explosion, tossing up only 11 shots (all 3-pointers) and hitting seven, including four straight from the deep right corner on four straight possessions in the first quarter. Bruce was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, tallying a team-best 25 points in the victory.
"That is the best fourth quarter we've played all year," Rebels coach Darrin Joines said. "But I still think our best game is in the future." Saturday's game might be a contestant for that honor, as Franklin weathered a big night from arguably the best back court tandem in Middle Tennessee. Junior Monte Streate led all scorers with 26 points and fellow junior Marvin Hughes added 16 before fouling out with five minutes to play. The pair also held senior guard Reese Glover to 13 points on an off-shooting night. Struggling early, Glover turned his focus to defense, knowing his teammates would take care of the offense. "Everybody stepped up," he said. "I knew they would. We love each other. "I thought it was (Matt Thurman's) best game of the year. He went up strong, powered through contact and just played a great game."
